Tottenham Hotspurs claimed their first win after their 2-0 win over Manchester United while Manchester City saw off Newcastle United in Premier League action on Saturday.

Spurs were playing at home for the first time since Kane left for Bayern Munich and broke the record for most goals scored.

But in Ange Postecoglou’s first game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home team showed signs of a new era. Pape Sarr’s goal and an own goal by Lisandro Martinez kept United’s slow start to the season going.

“Second half, certainly in spells, it kind of showed the team we want to be,” said Postecoglou.

“I keep saying we’re still a long way to go but I really liked the belief and resilience the guys have and the bravery they have to continue playing that way.”

Even though Erik ten Hag’s team played worse than Wolves, they won 1-0 at home on Monday.

This time, United was punished because, after a strong start, they lost steam.

Bruno Fernandes should have put the away team ahead with a header in the middle of the first half.

Pedro Porro hit the crossbar as time ran out in the first period, giving Spurs the lead.

And Postecoglou’s team got their reward after 49 minutes when Sarr scored his first goal for the club.

For the second goal, United’s day was a comedy of errors. Ben Davies missed Ivan Perisic’s cross, and Martinez couldn’t do anything with it because Andre Onana didn’t move.

United’s decision not to bid against Bayern for Kane will be looked at more closely now that they looked weak without their new striker Rasmus Hojlund, who was hurt.

“I am not concerned with our attacking play but I am by our scoring,” said Ten Hag. “We know this, that is why we’ve signed a striker.”

People thought that Newcastle would never have a better chance to beat City in the league away from home since 2000.

Pep Guardiola was upset that the champions had to play just three days after beating Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup in Athens, where it was hot as hell.

Even though City were missing Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones, they were still much better than Newcastle.

But it only took Julian Alvarez’s shot into the top corner on minute 31 for Guardiola’s team to get all three points.

Erling Haaland had three chances to add to the lead, but he missed all of them. City’s defence didn’t have much trouble, though, and they won their second Premier League game in a row.

“It is the second game of the season, but it is proof of the reason why we won a lot,” said Guardiola.

“Today the team showed to me and the Premier League we are ready to try to win it again.”

Liverpool beat Bournemouth 3-1 despite getting off to a bad start and losing Alexis Mac Allister to a red card early in the second half.

After only three minutes on the ground where they lost 9-0 last year, Antoine Semenyo scored for the visitors.

Luis Diaz scored with a clever flick and overhead kick to tie the game, and Mohamed Salah made it 2-1 after his penalty kick was saved.

When Mac Allister got a straight red card for leading with his studs on Ryan Christie, even though he barely touched the Scotland international, the momentum could have gone back to Bournemouth.

But within four minutes, Diogo Jota scored for the 10 men after Neto could only deflect Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot into his path.

Monday, Brighton paid Moises Caicedo a British record transfer fee that could go up to £115 million ($146 million).

But the Seagulls keep going up under Roberto De Zerbi, even though their best players have been taken by the best teams in the Premier League.

Kaoru Mitoma could be the next big-money player to leave, and the Japanese international scored the game’s first goal in spectacular fashion at Molineux. He dribbled past four Wolves defenders and finished with style.

Mitoma then set up Pervis Estupinan to smash the ball into the goal, making it 2-0. Solly March then scored twice with help from Julio Enciso.

Even though Ivan Toney was suspended, Brentford won 3-0 at Fulham, so they don’t seem to care that they didn’t have him.

Tim Ream, the captain of Fulham, was sent off after getting two yellow cards. Yoane Wissa scored the first goal, and Bryan Mbeumo scored twice after that.
