Tottenham Hotspur continued their fine run of form at home in the Premier League following their 2-1 victory over Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Spurs got off to a good start and opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Mousa Dembele set up Christian Eriksen to find the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini came close to leveling matters when his shot hit the side netting, but the Italian limped off shortly afterwards with a groin injury.
However, Spurs then doubled their lead when Adele Alli was brought down in the area by Steven Davis, and the Spurs midfielder stepped up to convert the spot kick.
After the first 45 minutes of the match, the LillyWhites went into the half time interval with a 2-0 lead.
The Saints pulled a goal back in the 53rd minute when James Ward-Prowse latched onto a cross from Nathan Redmond to put the ball past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham were edgy after that as Southampton sensed a route back in, but despite their prodigious work-rate they could not carve out too many goalscoring chances.
Substitute Vincent Janssen nearly calmed Tottenham’s jitters with ferocious blast that Forster beat away while at the other end Sofiane Boufal rifled a shot just wide in the last minute.
However, Spurs held on to their 2-1 lead until the final whistle to secure all three points at White Hart Lane.
