Liverpool has confirmed that English striker Daniel Sturridge is set to return home from The Reds’ mid-season training camp in La Manga on Friday due to a viral infection.
The Reds currently occupy fifth place in the Premier League table with 49 points, having won 14 out of 25 matches played so far this season.
The 27-year-old striker joined his teammates on the trip to Spain earlier this week, eager to participate in the daily double sessions despite feeling ill.
However, the former Chelsea striker’s condition hasn’t improved and he will now fly back to Merseyside today before resuming training at Melwood as soon as he has recovered from a viral infection.
Meanwhile, the remainder of Jurgen Klopp’s squad will return to Liverpool on Sunday as they prepare for their next Premier League clash.
Sturridge has netted a total of six goals and has assisted a further three from 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Liverpool will take on defending champions Leicester City next in the Premier League on Monday, February 27.
The match at the King Power Stadium kicks off at 22:00.
