The 24-year-old joined the Seagulls after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal to become their seventh summer signing.

Tau began his career with the Brazilians after a season on loan with Witbank Spurs during the 2015-16, before returning to the club in 2016-17.

The Mpumalanga-born player won seven trophies in South Africa, claiming three Absa Premiership titles, Caf Champions League trophy, Caf Super Cup, a Nedbank Cup trophy and the Telkom Knockout Cup during his trophy-ladien spell at Sundowns.

Tau also picked up the Footballer of the Season and Absa Premiership Player’s Player of the Season awards after finishing as the joint top scorer in the PSL with Rodney Ramagalela of Polokwane City with 13 goals.

The Bafana Bafana star believes that going out on loan will provide him with the much-needed experience of playing European football.

‘Going out on loan is always good to help a player develop and get better. It’s new for me to be in Europe, and I’ll get to work on myself and a few things that I need to improve,’ Tau told his new cub’s official website.

‘I’m hoping to get a better understanding of the game from playing there. It’s a different approach to what we’re used to in South Africa. It’s exciting football.’

Tau says he is grateful towards Sundowns and what he has achieved at the club, but is now focused on gaining even more success in Europe while continuing his progress with the national team.

‘Last season was great, I got a few personal achievements, but we won the league as well, which is something that means so much to me,’ he added.

‘I’m happy to have gone down that path, but it’s over now and it’s time to make new memories.

‘This move should help me play more international football. I’ll be learning a lot, which will also be good for my country.

‘Hopefully I can make some great memories here – I love making memories and I’m so happy to be here.

‘I’m very impressed with the facilities, they’re better than what I’m used to. It’s something I expected and it’s a better place to be.’
