Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Israel forward Manor Solomon on a free transfer.
Solomon was able to terminate his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk after FIFA extended its temporary employment rules related to the conflict.
This allowed the 23-year-old to join Ange Postecoglou’s team on a five-year contract this week after passing his medical.
Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014, foreign players contracted to clubs affiliated with Ukrainian or Russian football associations can “unilaterally suspend their employment” until June 30, 2024, provided teams are notified in writing of the suspension by July 1.
Solomon’s previous contract with Shakhtar was set to expire on December 31, and he exercised his right to terminate his current employment with the Ukraine club, allowing him to become a free agent.
The winger, who has 35 international caps for Israel, is Tottenham’s fourth signing since the end of the previous season.
Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move from Juventus to North London was made permanent, along with the arrivals of Italy custodian Guglielmo Vicario and England midfielder James Maddison.
Due to a serious knee injury, Solomon had to wait until January to make his professional debut, but he displayed his potential during his loan with Fulham during the 2016–17 season.
In 24 appearances, he scored five goals to help Fulham finish 10th in the Premier League.
In a friendly on August 6, Solomon could face his former club Shakhtar after it was announced last month that Tottenham would host the Ukrainian champions.
