Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure insists that Manchester City will keep on fighting to reach the finals of the FA Cup this season.
Pep Guardiola’s side are currently fighting for a place in the Premier League top four, which yields a Champions League berth for next season.
The Citizens currently occupy fourth place on the table with 61 points, having won 18 out of their 31 matches played thus far this season. Guardiola’s charges trail third-placed Liverpool by two points.
The Ivorian midfielder spoke about his desire to lift the FA Cup trophy this season, but he admits that City are focusing on their upcoming game against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
‘I want to win trophies. I hope we can lift something for us and the fans this year,’ Toure told the Manchester City website.
‘All this year, we’ve been fighting for something. I hope this year we can make it again. The FA Cup is a big target for us this year. We’re looking forward to it.
‘[But] First of all, we have Southampton and then we’ll see what happens. I’m the type of player that always wants to win. On Saturday, we play Southampton and we’ll try and win that game.’
The 35-year has netted six times and assisted a further two from 24 appearances played across all competitions this season.
City will be hoping to continue their winning ways when they take on Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
The match at St Mary’s Stadium kicks off at 18:30.
