Arsenal fell to a 2-1 defeat against Watford while Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland played out to a goalless draw in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.
The hornets got off to a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Younes Kaboul scored from a free-kick from 25-yards out to make it 1-0.
However, three minutes later, Watford doubled their lead when Troy Deeney put the ball into the back of the net from close range to make it 2-0.
The Gunners were dealt a major blow in the 20th minutes when Aaron Ramsey was forced off the field through injury and had to be replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
In the opening 45 minutes of the match the scoreline remained 2-0 in favour of Watford as the match went into the half time interval.
However, the Gunners pulled a goal back in the 59th minute when Alex Iwobi put the ball into the back of the net from a cross from Alexis Sanchez at the far post.
The home side came close to levelling matters in the 84th minute but Lucas Perez’s effort from close range hit the woodwork.
However, Watford managed to hold on to their 2-1 lead until the final whistle to walk away with all three points on the night.
