Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side’s technical superiority made the difference against West Ham United, following their 3-0 victory on Wednesday.
The Gunners put three goals past their London rivals the Hammers through goals by Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud to secure all three points and keep the top four hopes alive.
The 67-year-old manager believes their stalemate against City boosted their morale ahead of their clash against West Ham, but he also praised his side’s convincing individual performances.
‘Yes, you could see even if the result was not what we wanted against City, it had a positive impact on the morale of the team,’ Wenger told the Arsenal website.
‘In the first half we needed to be patient, not to make a mistake, and in the second half, our technical superiority made the difference.
‘At the end of the day, it was a convincing win with good individual performances from everybody, from the goalkeeper to the striker.’
The French manager insists that it was a good victory for the Gunners following their recent bad run of results, which has helped their hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four this season.
‘So it’s a good result tonight and a relief as well because we have gone through a bad period. Overall you can say the mentality in the team is healthy and that is a good basis,’ he added.
The Gunners are currently placed fifth in the Absa Premiership standing with 54 points, having won 16 out of their 29 matches played so far this season, level on points with Manchester United in sixth and four points behind Manchester City in fourth.
Arsenal will next take on Crystal Palace when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Monday.
The match at Selhurst Park kicks off at 21:00.
