Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says his side displayed great resiliency to secure a 2-1 victory against Anderlecht in their Europa League quarter-final second-leg clash on Thursday.
The Red Devils booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition after they secured a 3-2 aggregate win over the Belgium side in their two-legged quarter-final fixture.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring for the host in the 10th minute before Sofiane Hanni netted a 32nd-minute leveller, however Marcus Rashford sealed United’s progression when he scored a 107th-minute winner.
United are now one step closer to the finals and will now find out who their semi-final opponents will be after the draw commences on Friday afternoon.
The Portuguese manager says his side put up a great fight against a dominant Anderlecht side to snatch a late win in extra-time ,however Mourinho has cautioned United about conceding goals, especially when playing at Old Trafford.
‘I think we had like 17 shots and 10 on target, something like that but the game was difficult. When you look at these numbers, maybe somebody who didn’t watch the match thinks it was total dominance but it was not like that,’ Mourinho told the Man Utd website.
‘They started much better than us and despite our chances, they had good control of the game for about one hour. I think when we put one more player in midfield we started controlling the game and then you are always at risk because at 1-1 you are at risk.
‘But from that moment we were in control and it was just a question of scoring and not conceding. It was hard though.’
Manchester United will now turn their attention back to the Premier League when they take on Burnley on Saturday.
The match at Turf Moor kicks off at 15:15.
