Manchester City booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals following their 5-1 victory over Huddersfield Town at the Etihad on Wednesday evening.
City got off to a bright start and nearly took the lead in the fifth minute when Kevin De Bruyne played a ball to Leroy Sane, who sent a cross to Sergio Aguero, but the striker could only find the woodwork with his effort.
However, Huddersfield responded well and took the lead two minutes later when Harry Bunn latched onto a ball from Philip Billing, before putting the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Pep Guardiola’s side then equalised in the 30th minute when Raheem Sterling sent a low cross to Sane, who slotted the ball into an empty net to make it 1-1.
City then doubled their lead eight minutes later when they were awarded a penalty after Nicolas Otamendi was brought down in the box. Aguero stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from the spot-kick.
However, City then grabbed their third when Aguero picked out Pablo Zabaleta just inside the area before the defender put the ball into the back of the net from close range to make it 3-1.
Right before the half-time interval, Huddersfield came close to pulling a goal back when Billing slid a gorgeous pass in behind the City defence for Payne, only for his strike to be saved by the legs of the City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
In the first 45 minutes of the match, Manchester City went into the half-time interval with a 3-1 lead over Huddersfield Town.
Huddersfield started the second half off brightly and had the first attempt on goal when Quaner turned sharply in the central area to shake off De Bruyne before producing a shot at goal, but the striker was forced to settle for a corner after his shot took a deflection.
The visiting side had another chance to reduce the deficit in the 55th minute when Billing picked up the ball on the edge of the box before sending a teasing cross to the front post, but Lolley was unable to convert his headed effort from seven yards out.
However, City extended their lead in the 73rd minute when Sterling sent a low cross along the six-yard box to Aguero, who made no mistake to slot the ball into the top left corner to make it 4-1.
City nearly scored a fifth goal in the 85th minute when Kelechi Iheanacho bulldozed his way through the centre of the opposition defence before Sterling eventually took over to smash a strike at goal, but was denied by Coleman.
The Citizens managed to grab their fifth goal in stoppage time when Jesus Navas sent a low cross to Iheanacho, who slotted the ball home from close range.
Guardiola’s side managed to keep a hold on their 5-1 lead until the final whistle, to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup against Middlesbrough.
