Manchester City have confirmed that captain Vincent Kompany will miss their FA Cup fifth round replay against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.
The Belgium international recently suffered a leg injury and has not been named in Pep Guardiola’s squad since their clash against Bournemouth earlier this month.
The 30-year-old has only managed to appear a total of six times for the Citizens this season after being plagued with a number of injuries.
The former Barcelona manager has confirmed that the club captain will not be a part of the squad for the cup tie as he is currently in the final stages of his recovery but he revealed that he will play a part for the remainder of the season.
‘No, not tomorrow. He is much better but not right. Soon – he is in the last part [of his recovery],’ Guardiola told the Manchester City website.
The Blues squad have recently returned from a mid-season break in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, where they were met by City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
Guardiola went on to say that it was a positive experience for City and it gave players the opportunity to unwind after a hectic period of fixtures.
‘We were together in a different place so we found the sun and don’t think too much about football. It was a short trip but it was nice. No injuries,’ He added.
Manchester City will next welcome Huddersfield Town to the Etihad Stadium when the two side’s meet in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday.
Kick-off has been set for 21:45.
