Chelsea defender David Luiz says he would like to put their recent defeat by Manchester United behind them, and focus on their FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Brazilian has been an outstanding player during his second spell with the Blues, following his £34 million move back to Stamford Bridge.
The 29-year-old explained the reason behind Marcos Alonso’s exclusion from the squad against United, admitting that the Blues didn’t play well, but insisted that Jose Mourinho’s side deserved the win following their display.
‘This kind of thing can happen. He felt a bit sick, so that is why we had to change, but it didn’t affect the game because Marcos did not play, we lost because we did not play very well and it was not the Chelsea like before and sometimes this happens,’ Luiz told the Chelsea website.
‘We didn’t play well, Manchester United played better than us and they deserved to win.’
Luiz has started every match for the Blues since making his first appearance back in September during their 2-1 defeat against Liverpool, while scoring one goal in the process.
The former Benfica defender says his side are solely focused on their upcoming FA Cup semi-final clash against London rivals Spurs at Wembley Stadium.
‘Tottenham are playing very well,’ he added.
‘But also we are top of the table for a reason and we still have to play a lot of football, so we need to look forward and play the next games.’
Chelsea will now go head-to-head with an in-form Tottenham Hotspur side in their FA Cup semi-finals clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off has been scheduled for 18:15.
