Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he is ‘proud’ of his players for their performance in the FA Cup, despite their elimination from the competition.
The Red Devils were eliminated from the competition after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge through a goal by N’Golo Kante.
United were forced to play most of the match with 10 men when Ander Herrera was sent off in the 35th minute after being shown a second yellow card.
The Portugues manager admits he was proud of his side’s performance and the fans support when they showed a real fight spirit after going down 10-men.
‘I want to say that I’m really proud of my players, I’m really proud of Manchester United fans,’ Mourinho told the Manchester United website.
The 54-year-old insists United will now shift their attention to the Europa League as they prepare to take on Rostov in the second leg tie.
‘We have a very important match on Thursday and I want to rest a little bit to try to prepare the team as best we can for the Thursday match and that’s the most important thing.’
The Red Devils are heading into their Europa League encounter with an important away goal, having drawn 1-1 against the Russian side in the first leg at Stadion Olimp 2 last week Wednesday.
However, Manchester United will now welcome Rostov to Old Trafford when the two side’s meet in the Europa League second leg encounter on Thursday.
Kick-off has been set for 22:05.
