Marcus Rashford played a starring role as Manchester United beat Everton 3-1 in the FA Cup third round at Old Trafford on Friday evening.
Everton went to Old Trafford with a lot of fear after a humiliating 4-1 home loss to Brighton this week dropped them into the Premier League relegation zone.
They got off to the worst possible start when Brazil’s Antony scored in the fourth minute. Ten minutes later, Conor Coady tied the game after United goalkeeper David de Gea made a mistake.
But early in the second half, an Everton defender put the ball into his own net. This gave the home team the lead again.
Rashford scored from the penalty spot in the final seconds to add to United’s lead. He has scored in every game since the World Cup.
Man-of-the-match Rashford was very sure of himself and said that the way he was scoring goals was on par with the best times of his career.
The England forward also said that the players were desperate to win a trophy for the club for the first time since 2017.
“We want to be in finals and the biggest games,” he said. “Ultimately, we want to win silverware and a trophy. Hopefully this season we will get the opportunity to do that.”
