Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is out to derail Manchester City’s treble bid when the two sides square off in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 3.
After a scoreless game at Wembley on Sunday, United won 7-6 on penalties, with defender Victor Lindelof making the winning kick.
It helped ease the pain of their terrible Europa League performance last week, when they lost 3-0 to Sevilla in the quarter-finals and lost 5-2 overall.
But if they want to beat Pep Guardiola’s City in the FA Cup final on June 3, they will need to be more aggressive. City is trying to win the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup all at the same time.
City is the favourite to win all three trophies this season. They have been getting better and better over the last few weeks.
Before Thursday’s loss in Spain, United was on track to win three trophies of their own, but they are still looking for a domestic double after winning the League Cup in February to end a six-year trophy drought.
After the nail-biting shootout at Wembley, United manager Ten Hag praised his team’s ability to get back on its feet.
“First we are physical, strong, we are mentally strong, so we showed the character and personality necessary… we were determined to win this game,” he said.
But the Dutch manager said that his team needs to learn how to change things up during tough games. They have lost some tough games this season, including 6-3 at City and 7-0 at Liverpool.
“What we have proved is that we can deal with setbacks, we can bounce back between games,” he said.
“But now what we have to improve is to bounce back in a game in difficult situations or occasions, away stadiums — it doesn’t matter what, we have to show personality.”
