Manchester United are through to the FA Cup final after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in their semi-final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening.
Both United and Spurs came into the game desperate to reach the final as they chase their only hope of silverware.
It was Mauricio Pochettino’s men who were fastest out of the block as they opened the scoring with just 11 minutes played. Christian Eriksen delivered a delightful cross to the back post, Dele Alli raced into the area and was on hand to nudge it home.
It was all Spurs as they dominated the opening 20 minutes, but they could not take advantage of their pressure and seemingly out of nowhere, the Red Devils were level. Paul Pogba delivered a pin-point cross which found Alexis Sanchez in the area; the Chilean rose high and directed his header back across Michel Vorm into the back of the net, 1-1 after 24 minutes.
Both sides were looking good and contributing to an exciting match. Eric Dier came close to putting Spurs ahead, but his deflected shot hit the post just before the break, 1-1 at half-time with the game very much in the balance.
After a subdued opening to the second half, Jose Mourinho’s men sparked the game back to life as they took the lead on 62 minutes. The ball was played in to Romelu Lukaku, whose poor first touch saw the ball bounce away from him and fall into the path of Ander Herrera, who smashed his shot into the back of the net.
Spurs had plenty of the ball but could not find an opening as they failed to test David De Gea for the remainder of the match. United held on for the victory and are through to the FA Cup final.
