Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of French international striker Antoine Griezmann after the Atletico Madrid star confirmed his position at the Spanish club.
Griezmann, who was the leading player at Euro 2016, has been on the radar for Europe’s leading clubs including United’s rivals and league leaders, Chelsea, but appears intent on staying at the Vicente Calderon.
‘I’m very happy at Atletico, I’m very proud to play for these fans, with these players and with this coach,’ Griezmann told AS.
‘I want to try and pay back the confidence and care that the people at Atletico have always shown me.’
Griezmann appears frustrated by constant speculation linking him with a move away from Atletico.
‘I don’t like this question, don’t hit me with these questions about my future because for players like Cristiano [Ronaldo], [Leo] Messi or [Gareth] Bale nobody asks them what is going to happen next year or where they are going to play.
‘That’s why I don’t like it when they ask me, either.
‘I’m happy and enjoying myself at Atletico, don’t ask me about my future anymore.’
The Frenchman has six goals and four assists to his name in league action this season.
