James Rodriguez has vowed to stay and fight for his Real Madrid career after playing a starring role for Los Blancos in their 3-0 win over Sevilla on Wednesday.
Just over a week ago, the Colombian was on the verge of a Madrid exit with Chelsea and Manchester United keen on bringing him to the Premier League but that was before his brace against Sevilla in the first leg Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash.
‘We played well with a lot of intensity. It’s a good result to take into the return leg – it’s an excellent result against an excellent team,’ the Colombian playmaker told reporters.
‘All I want is to play well when I am given the opportunity and to do good things like in tonight’s game and help the team with goals or passes. I felt really good out there. The whole team played well and when that’s the case, everything falls into place for each one of us. Now we have to prepare ourself for what will be a tough year.’
James revealed that he has no intention of leaving Spain after hearing fans inside the Santiago Bernabeu chanting his name.
‘That was beautiful, I have always dreamed about being at this club and when the fans chant your name, it’s a unique feeling.’
And while he pursues a more regular place in Zinedine Zidane’s side, he is happy to fight for his place like the rest of the star-studded squad and took time to end all transfer rumours involving his name.
‘Obviously, all of us want to always be in the team and always be playing; we all go through bad moments but this is the start of a new year and a new life.
‘I’m staying, I’m staying here.’
