Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made his 700th club appearance during Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat against Valencia in the La Liga on Wednesday.

The match did not go as planned for Ronaldo after his side fell to their second defeat of the season through goals by Simone Zaza and Fabian Orellana, putting the home side 2-0 ahead within 10 minutes.

However, Ronaldo marked his milestone with a goal before the break after getting ahead of Eliaquim Mangala to meet a cross from Marcelo, before unleashing a powerful header to put the ball past Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves.

The Portuguse international made 700 appearances playing for the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United and Real Madrid over the course of his career.

He has found the back of the net for a total of 504 goals and assisted a further 185 goals in all competitions since making his senior debut back in July 2002.

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has been at the Santiago Bernabeu for almost eight years, during which period he has won one La Liga title and two Copa del Rey titles, two Champions League and two Club World Cup trophies.

However, before his arrival at the club he was already dubbed as one of the best players in the world, having lifted the Premier League three times, as well as the Champions League and Club World Cup in the six years he spent with Manchester United.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are currently placed first in the Spanish La Liga standings with 52 points and have won a total of 16 matches out of 22 played so far this season.

Real Madrid will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Villarreal in their next La Liga fixture taking place on Saturday.

The match at Camp El Madrigal kicks off at 21:45.
