Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has been released from the hospital after suffering a head injury during his side’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna on Thursday.

The Spanish striker came on as a substitute during their La Liga clash. He collided with Deportivo midfielder Alex Bergantinos with five minutes left to play and stayed down after the incident.

There was huge concern from both sets of players and Torres was carried off on a stretcher, before being transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

A cranial and cervical CT scan revealed that the 32-year-old suffered no alterations or traumatic injuries, but the striker was kept overnight for observation.

Atletico Madrid released the following statement:

‘The forward, who is stable, spent a good night (in hospital) and will undergo an MRI in the next hours to confirm he is definitely okay.’

‘Fernando Torres was medically discharged and is available for Diego Pablo Simeone. Our player suffered a muscle injury in the internal obturator muscle of the left hip.

‘Our forward trained today normally under Diego Pablo Simeone along with the rest of his teammates.’
