Kylian Mbappe scored an injury-time winner as Neymar got sent off in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 victory over Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.
Mbappe was back in action 10 days after scoring three goals in the final but losing in a penalty shootout to South America.
Neymar was sent off for PSG after getting two yellow cards. This was the Brazilian’s first game since his country was knocked out of the World Cup quarterfinals.
Captain Marquinhos put the home team ahead early with a header, but after 51 minutes, a Brazilian defender scored an own goal as some of PSG’s stars seemed to be suffering from a hangover from the game against Qatar.
Neymar got a yellow card for flipping his finger in the face of a Strasbourg player and then another for diving in the penalty area right after the hour mark.
Mbappe had been a constant threat for PSG, but he missed two clear-cut chances to score.
But late in the second half, he was brought down in the penalty area. In the 96th minute, he scored the winning goal from the spot.
The victory put PSG eight points ahead of Lens, who must beat Nice on Thursday to keep up.
After the game, Mbappe said of the World Cup defeat: “I think I’m never going to get over it.
“As I said to my teammates, there is no reason why the club should pay the price for the failure of the national team, they are two very different situations,” he added.
