Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt insists that his side will have to be at their best when they take on SuperSport United in the quarter-final of the MTN8 this weekend.

The Clever Boys booked their place in the top-eight competition after finishing in third place in the Absa Premiership standings during the 2018-19 season, while United placed sixth on the league table.

However, the two teams will now square off at the Bidvest Stadium as they look to book their place in the semi-final of the competition.

‘SuperSport United have a lot of quality in their team, we certainly have to play very well at home. If you look at the team they have, it suits them well,’ Hunt told the media.

‘They were in the final last year, they are a strong team.

‘The MTN8 is a very lucrative Cup, it is a great cup. We are so lucky to have a sponsor like MTN8 and to play for this kind of money in four games.’

Commenting on recent reports linking captain Thulani Hlatshwayo with a move away from the club, Hunt said: ‘I like the boy, I don’t want to lose the boy. He is happy at the club. He is an important member of our club.’

Meanwhile, SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo said: ‘A team like SuperSport, as much as you are building, you are expected to win trophies,’ Tembo said.

‘Our team is in transition at the moment. We brought in a lot of new players and released some, but at the same time, we are expected to win games.

‘I don’t need to motivate my guys [for MTN8], they are motivated already. Maybe instead of motivating them, I might need to calm them down a bit to keep them grounded.

‘This is an important tournament for us. We have been to three finals in the last few years. We are still hurting from last season’s disappointment of losing in the final.’

The match at the Bidvest Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
