Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena admits it’s “not easy” to play a team like Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
The Brazilians were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Amakhosi after Khuliso Mudau scored a stoppage-time equaliser to cancel out Edson Castillo’s 61st-minute opener.
The two teams will have it all to play for in the MTN8 semi-final second leg at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, September 23.
Mokwena praised his side’s performance but felt they did enough to win the game and was happy to walk away with the draw heading into their home fixture against Amakhosi.
“The feeling is of course like a victory and I want to congratulate the football club and the players for a very good performance, very dominant and 71% ball possession against a team like Kaizer Chiefs at FNB is not easy but we did very, very well today,” Mokwena told his club’s official website.
“I think we deserved to win, I think at the very, very least we didn’t deserve to lose. Congratulations to the players for an incredible fighting spirit and showing a big heart, fighting against all odds, getting an important result.”
