Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has put his side’s MTN8 defeat behind him to wish the two local coaches in Kaitano Tembo and Benni McCarthy all the best ahead of the showpiece event.

Downs were knocked out of the competition at the hands of Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City, who edged the Brazilians 4-2 on penalties after both legs of the semi-final ended 1-0, ensuring a 1-1 aggregate.

Defending champions Supersport United, now under the guidance of former assistant coach Kaitano Tembo, beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on Saturday to seal a 3-2 aggregate win for Matsatsantsa.

Despite his side’s elimination, Mosimane has a positive outlook, with the final being contested between two local coaches.

‘It’s not about losing the match and having sour grapes,’ Mosimane said on his side’s exit.

Mosimane may have a soft spot for both coaches, but favours a Tembo victory due to his past with the Matsatsantsa coach.

‘As much as I wish him [McCarthy] the best and want him to win, I also want Kaitano, who has been with me for many years at SuperSport as my player, student – I also want him to win his first trophy.

‘Because I want him to cement his position as SuperSport United head coach because the match is important to him.

‘I can’t win everything, other people have to win also. I will win next time,’ concluded the former Bafana Bafana coach.
