Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro was delighted to see his side begin the new season on a positive note following their victory over SuperSport United.
The Buccaneers advanced to the MTN8 semi-final after claiming a 3-1 victory over Matsatsantsa at the Orlando Stadium this past weekend.
Goal from Olisa Ndah, Monnapule Saleng, Evidence Makgopa saw the Soweto giants continue their title defence while former Pirates star Vincent Pule scored a consolation goal for United.
The Spanish tactician was the first to admit that the clash against SuperSport was “intense and tough,” despite claiming the victory.
“A proper football game I think. Intense, tough, quite high the rhythm, it’s difficult at this stage of the season, so congratulations to both teams,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV after the game.
“SuperSport as well for the battle. It’s amazing to play the first game at home and it’s almost full.
“So all the components to have a great night, I think the boys deserve it. It’s a good way to start the season, we’re in the semi-finals, well deserved. We were better overall, so really happy with the performance.”
Orlando Pirates will now turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round first leg when they take on CNaPS Sport on Sunday, August 18.
