SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo believes that Cape Town City have improved since last season’s MTN8 final, saying Benni McCarthy has done a ‘wonderful’ job, writes DEAN WORKMAN.

Matsatsantsa beat the Citizens in last year’s showpiece event at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, winning on penalties after the match ended 1-1.

That, however, was still a City team that was largely formed by previous coach Eric Tinkler. McCarthy, now in his second season with the Cape Town-based club, has had time to imprint his philosophy on the squad as well as bring in some signings of his own.

The fact that SuperSport will face a very different City starting XI in this year’s final is not lost on Tembo, who admitted that it is always tough to face McCarthy’s men.

‘This is a new game and Cape Town City have changed, they have improved and as a team, there is a lot of progress.

‘I think Benni has done a wonderful job. They are a good team now, they are more organised, they have good possession, good buildup from the back and speed up front.

‘They are a complete side now, so it is not going to be an easy game, but we are ready to perform and get a result against them,’ concluded the SuperSport coach.
