Orlando Pirates coach Rhulani Mokwena insists that his side will go back to the drawing board and work on improving their performance.
The Buccaneers were eliminated from the top-eight competition following their 1-0 defeat by Highlands Park at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
The Soweto giants have now conceded three consecutive defeats in all competitions against Green Eagles, SuperSport United and the Lions of the North, respectively.
Mokwena assumed the coaching responsibilities – assisted by Fadlu Davids and Franck Plaine – after Milutin Sredojevic resigned from his post as head coach on Friday.
‘Difficult match against a very difficult opponent. You can see we’ve had a lot of things happening within us in the last 48 hours,’ Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the match.
‘But there’s no excuses, we’ll go back and try to improve. We accept the defeat with utmost humility.
‘Not enough [chances created], you can see we are a team that still needs a few more training sessions. Unfortunately there’s a congestion with the fixture list and that doesn’t give you time to fix some of the things.
‘At this moment we’ve had to do a lot of analysis, use video to improve the team and cover some of the cracks in the interim.
‘But keep on working to try and improve; work on the players’ confidence because the most important thing is to bounce back and help these players to continue to believe in themselves and believe in the way we have been playing,’ he concluded.
