Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker will not underestimate “giant-killers” Milford FC when the two sides meet in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.
The Maroons advanced to this take of the competition after claiming a 4-3 victory in a penalty shootout over Pretoria Callies at the Danie Craven Stadium last Friday.
Stellies will now take on Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford in the round of 16 although the dates and venues are yet to be determined.
They will be hoping to continue their current form and looking for a positive result when they take on Chippa United in the DStv Premiership on Friday evening.
“We’re looking forward to the match against Milford FC,” Barker told his club’s official website.
“They are obviously coming off of a high after defeating Kaizer Chiefs so I believe they’ll see that giant-killing act as an opportunity to do so again against Stellenbosch.
“They have a home draw and I’m sure it will be an exciting prospect for them to host us, but we understand that to win a trophy you have to overcome many different obstacles, challenges, and opponents, as we already saw in our previous match against Pretoria Callies.
“It can be tricky to play teams from the lower divisions so it’s important for us to approach the game with the right mentality and attitude, and with the confidence and belief that it’s an opportunity for us to get into another cup quarter-final.”
“We’re pleased with the draw but we will not underestimate our opponents.”
