Kaizer Chiefs edged Chippa United 4-2 in a six goal thriller at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to book their spot in the Nedbank Cup final.

Chiefs came into the game looking to book their place in the final and have chance to end their dreaded trophy drought.

Chippa on the other hand were looking to put their relegation battle to the side for the weekend and defeat yet another big side in their persuit of the trophy.

Chiefs started on the front foot and almost took the lead early on when Andriamirado ‘Dax’ hit a powerful long-range effort which clipped the crossbar.

A frantic start saw both team fly into challenges with Kabelo Mahlasela forced off with an injury in the 13th minute and replaced by Dumisani Zuma.

The Chili Boys were looking to play on the counter and almost broke the deadlock when Kurt Lentjies slipped in Thabo Rakhale down the left-hand side, but the winger’s cut-back was superbly blocked by Kgotso Moleko.

Chiefs though took the lead in the 36th minute when Zuma capitalized on a horrific error from Chippa goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela, leaving the Chiefs winger with a tap in to an empty net.

Amakhosi 1-0 up at the break.

Chiefs came out looking to double their lead at the start of the second stanza with both Bernard Parker and Khama Billiat missing promising openings, while Lerato Manzini missed the chance to fire Chippa level after a flowing counter-attack.

Chiefs were made to rue those misses as Chippa equaliser in the 64th minute when Andile Mbenyane headed home after a terrific Makobela cross.

The home side then hit the front with 20 minutes to play as Manzini tapped home after a Rakhale cross to stun the visitors.

Ernst Middendorp’s though refused to lie down and found an equailser after some a mature defending saw Zuma pick up the ball before picking out Dax who had a tap in.

However, with 15 minutes to go, Ernst Middendorp’s side were back on level terms. Some comical defending from Chippa, in which they failed to clear their lines, allowed Zuma free passage in to the box, who squared the ball for Andrianarimanana to tap home from close range.

The game looked to be heading to extra-time untill Billiat combined with Bernard Parker before the Chiefs veteran chipped the out rushing Chippa keeper with five minutes to play.

Chiefs then secured their spot in the final against TS Galaxy moments later when Billiat produced a long range screamer to secure the result.

4-2 the final score as Chiefs will now need to overcome their opposition from the National First Division.
