Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids believes his side are not favourites heading into their Nedbank Cup final against Free State Stars on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The 37-year-old coach guided the Team of Choice to a club-record fourth place in the Absa Premiership standings this campaign while also leading them to the Nedbank Cup final.
Davids believes Ea Lla Koto are the more experienced in terms of cup finals and he insists they are favourites to lift the prestigious trophy.
‘Fighting for a top-three place with Kaizer Chiefs, that’s abnormal… so Maritzburg United, the players, the board and the chairman can really be proud of the season. It has been phenomenal,’ Davids said.
‘Another major factor is the supporters, it’s absolutely fantastic what we have here – it’s something special which we have created here.
‘We are definitely not favourites. Free State Stars have been in finals before and they have more experience in their squad, players with pedigree in cup finals.’
Maritzburg United will take on Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup final when the two sides meet at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm.
