Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt has expressed his concern after two of his players contracted flu, saying the coronavirus is coming closer to the PSL.
Haashim Domingo was named on the bench while Thabang Monare was left out of the Clever Boys Nedbank Cup squad after they both fell ill with flu.
The Students went on to secure a commanding 4-0 victory over Real Kings in the quarter-finals at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium to book their place in the semi-final of the competition.
However, Hunt revealed that Monare and Domingo were tested for the coronavirus prior to their clash with the GladAfrica Championship side after Wits University student was quarantined after showing symptoms of the virus.
‘We’re a bit scared because we’ve had two players go down with heavy flu, so they’ve been checked now – Thabang Monare and Haashim Domingo,’ Hunt told the media.
‘It’s going to come close to home. Already a student at Wits [University] is in quarantine, so who knows? I’ve been in the same place as the students, so I don’t know.
‘People are just brushing it off, but it’s a serious thing. At least it’s going to run, you know, it will spread. It’s getting closer and closer to home, isn’t it?
‘So with Fifa week games already cancelled, what’s next? The league is going to be closed down. If it hits here, it’s going to be a problem.’
