Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune insists Steve Komphela’s tongue-lashing during half time motivated them to improve their performance in the second half.

The Glamour Boys progressed to the last 16 in the Nedbank Cup after securing a comfortable 3-0 win over Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium on Sunday.

Khune reveals that Komphela gave Amakhosi a stern talking during the half time interval which prompted them to see out their game plan in the second half.

‘It’s great to win and progress to the next stage. It wasn’t easy. In the first half, I don’t think we played according to our game-plan. We were very poor,’ Khune told SuperSport TV after the game.

‘The coach gave us a tongue-lashing at the break and we came out better in the second half. So I think we always need to get that before playing our best game.’

The Amakhosi shot-stopper says he is delighted to have advanced to the next round, but admits his side should’ve won by a larger margin.

‘That’s been the story of ourselves. We could have scored more, but we’re happy to progress to the next stage,’ he added.

Kaizer Chiefs will now turn their attention back to the Absa Premiership when they welcome Cape Town City to the FNB Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 20:15.
