Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela admits it won’t be an easy match as his side prepare to take on giant killers Acornbush United in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys were recently drawn against giant killers Acornbush United and the two sides are set to go head-to-head at the Kabokweni Stadium on Sunday.

The 49-year-old insists that after meeting the Acornbush mentor, he has as much respect for the coach as he does for any other coach in the game.

‘I just met Acornbush coach Macdonald Makhubedu for the first time. My respect for him is the same as for all other coaches, irrespective of what team they are in charge of,’ Komphela told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

Komphela says he is well aware of the calibre of players at Acornbush, but has urged his side not to underestimate them.

‘I have worked with a number of players from this team in the past. We must not forget that Acornbush beat Cape Town City on their way to the Last 16 and tops their regional log,’ he added.

‘Come Sunday, the stadium will be painted Gold and Black. We are doing it for Amakhosi.’

The former Free State Stars coach says he is well aware of the threat the ABC Motsepe League side poses, while also admitting that the match won’t be a walk in the park.

‘We will always remain respectful. From a technical point of view, our game model of showing respect will not change against them,’ Komphela said.

‘It’s a cup competition, so it’s a one-off match and it’s not going to be easy. Every season is different and everything in life has a beginning.’

Kaizer Chiefs will now travel to the Kabokweni Stadium when they take on Acornbush United in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday.

Kick-off has been set for 15:00.
