Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp refused to be drawn about his future if Chiefs should lose the upcoming Nedbank Cup final, but instead insisted his team would win the cup, and pointed out that he has a lengthy contract with the club.

The Soweto giants will come up against National First division side TS Galaxy on Saturday evening in what is a must-win game for Amakhosi if they wish to bring some smattering of respectability back to the club after what has been a poor campaign to date.

Chiefs finished the league season with a run of seven games without a win that ultimately saw the Glamour Boys finish outside the top eight for the first time in 12 years.

This form has consequently led to questions about the future of the German tactician in the event that Saturday’s clash not go according to plan against a side not in the top flight.

Middendorp negated the question, though, stating he would not deal in ifs and buts, and that his contract with Chiefs extended over many years.

‘You cannot… Don’t approach me with if, if, if, and again if. I think if you want to write something about ”if”, and what’s your option in case of ”if”, then just do it. But, please, don’t expect an answer from my side in case of ”if”’.’

The Chiefs coach was in a positive mood and stated that he would provide the club with the silverware it craved so badly.

‘We have a very clear target to win this cup, and that’s what we are doing.

‘Whatever you’re saying in this moment, I have a contract over [a certain amount of] years and I will win this cup – that’s our target.

‘And I’m not going into it and looking into options you are creating now. Please, do me a favour, this is definitely something that I’m not answering,’ concluded the German.
