Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says he “don’t know what happened” following his side’s defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.
The Buccaneers have now retained their Nedbank Cup crown following their 2-1 win over Sundowns at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening.
Themba Zwane opened the scoring for the Brazilians in the 54th minute before a 71st minute penalty by Patrick Maswanganyi and a stoppage time goal from Relebohile Mofokeng handed Pirates the win.
Mokwena admits that cup finals are always unpredictable but he did not expect his side to concede two goals and lose the match.
“I said I don’t know what happened, I honestly don’t know what happened, football can be very cruel can it? I mean we miss a penalty, they get a penalty, they scored, they equalised,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after the game.
“We dominated the game, I mean, then there’s this free-kick I don’t even think it should be going that way but okay this is what cup finals are all about, so congratulations to Pirates, we take the lesson and we move on.”
