Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele insists that his side will give it everything in the hope of securing their place in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.

The Glamour Boys will take Cape Town City in the quarter-final of the tournament when they square off at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi made their way into the last eight after securing a 3-0 victory over The Magic FC in the previous clash, while City cruised into the next round after claiming a comfortable win over Highlands Park.

‘I’m 100% recovered,’ Mphahlele told his club’s official website.

‘It was difficult to recover in terms of getting back to my usual tempo, but I’m stronger and quicker now. I will also continue to put in the work at training.’

With his injury woes behind him, Mphahlele is relishing the chance to claim his first piece of silverware with Amakhosi.

‘This is a season-defining match for us, so we will give it everything we have to ensure a place in the last four,’ he added.

‘We know what the opponents are capable of.

‘They will come and have a go at us, but we have been preparing well for this game.’

Mphahlele is confident that his side has the quality to overcome Benni McCarthy’s side to advance to the semi-final of the tournament.

‘As much as we are a team that don’t rely on individuals, there are some players we missed this season, who increase the chances of winning when they are on the field. The likes of Itu (Khune), Tight (Molangoane), Erick (Mathoho) and Lebo (Manyama) are so important to the team,’ Mphahlele said.

‘The other guys have stepped up and have done well in fighting for their positions. Now we have an opportunity to win a trophy.’

Kaizer Chiefs are set to welcome Cape Town City to the Mbombela Stadium when the two sides lock horns in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Sunday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
