TFGSoccerClub takes a look at the weekends result of Nedbank Cup action which saw Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City advance to the quarter-final, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

Friday:

Cape Umoya United (4) 0-0 (2) Mbombela United

Cape Umoya United defeated Mbombela United 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in the round of game at the Athlone Stadium on Friday.

The result saw the Spirited Ones become the first team to reach the quarter-finals stage of the tournament, while their National First Division (NFD) rivals Mbombela were eliminated from the competition.

Cape Town City 3-0 Highlands Park

The Citizens advanced to the next round of the competition of claiming a comfortable 3-0 victory over Highlands Park at Cape Town Stadium.

A a result, City joined Cape Umoya United in the last eight, while the Lions of the North crashed out of the tournament.

Saturday:

Witbank Spurs 1-2 Golden Arrows

Golden Arrows managed to claim a hard-fought 2-1 win over Witbank Spurs at the Puma Rugby Stadium to progress to the last eight.

Lerato Lamola brace for Abafana Bes’thende cancelled out Slovo Mrawu’s 84th minute goal, which proved to be a consolation for the NFD outfit.

Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 Richards Bay

Bloemfontein Celtic made their way into the next round of the competition after claiming a 1-0 victory over Richards Bay at the Free State Stadium.

Tshegofatso Mabaso’s strike for Phunya Sele Sele proved to be the difference as they now joined the likes of Cape Umoya United, Cape Town City and Arrows in the next round of the competition.

Chippa United 2-0 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila

The Chili Boys put in a dominant performance as they claimed a 2-0 victory over NFD side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium through goals from Kurt Lentjies and Mark Mayambela.

Sunday:

The Mgaic FC 0-3 Kaizer Chiefs

The Glamour Boys needed extra-time to defeat The Magic 3-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, as they booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup through goals from Daniel Cardoso, Philani Zulu and Khama Billiat.

Jomo Cosmos 0-1 TS Galaxy

TS Galaxy booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup with a 1-0 win over Jomo Cosmos at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa after Ezenkosi captain Dahou Ange Lebahi put the ball into his own net.

Galaxy will now join the likes of Cape Umoya United, Cape Town City, Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs in the quarter-final of the tournament.
