A brace by substitute Gustavo Paez helped Kaizer Chiefs come from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Acornbush United and advance to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.
The Glamour Boys enjoyed most of the possession on the ball in the early stages of the match, but failed to break down the Acornbush defence.
Acornbush came close to taking the lead in the 20th minute when Mduduzi Nkosi rounded Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, but fired his effort wide of the target.
Chiefs had a chance of their own three minutes later when Joseph Molangoane was played through on goal, but the midfielder failed to beat Acornbush goalkeeper Sibusisio Masuku from close range.
However, Acornbush were dealt a major blow when they were reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute when Sandy Nyathi was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Willard Katsande.
Despite being a man down, the home side broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute when Mudzunga Sidumo latched on to a pass from Nkosi to head the ball past Khune and make it 1-0.
After the first 45 minutes of the match, Acornbush went into the half time interval with a 1-0 lead over Chiefs.
Steve Komphela opted to make his first change at the start of the second half, as he introduced Gustavo Paez to replace defender Sibusiso Khumalo.
With Chiefs struggling in the final third, Komphela introduced William Twala for Kgosto Moleko in the 65th minute.
However, Chiefs eventually levelled matters in the 78th minute when Bernard Parker played Paez in, who sent his fine volleyed effort into the far corner to make it 1-1.
Amakhosi then took the lead in the 84th minute when Parker picked out Paez once again, and the Venezuelan striker made no mistake from six yards out to slot the ball into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, a brace by Abdoul Razak Fiston helped Bloemfontein to claim a 2-1 victory over Mbombela United at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium and book their place in the next round of the competition.
