Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele says that his team will give it their all in this season’s Nedbank Cup as they aim to end the clubs near six-year trophy drought.

The Buccaneers were drawn against Bidvest Wits in the round of 32 at the 2019/20 Nedbank Cup draw which took place in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.

The clash against the Clever Boys will take place at the Orlando Stadium with a date yet to be announced.

The Soweto giants have already seen their trophy drought extended this season as they fell short in the MTN8, CAF Champions’ League and Telkom Knockout this season, while their Absa Premiership campaign not going to plan with Pirates sitting 14 points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs after 16 rounds of games.

The Pirates captain though believes that the cup competition will provide them with a chance to bring silverware back to the club.

‘It’s been a while not winning any silverware, so I think this one is going to be very important for the team,’ Jele told his club’s social platforms.

‘Playing for the fans and playing for the chairman, because he’s been supporting us all these years, so obviously it would be nice to win the trophy for him.

‘We want to go out and play our normal football and do well for the team.’

The central defender however knows that they will be faced with a tough challenge against Gavin Hunt’s men.

‘It’s a big game, and it’s a very exciting challenge for us to play against Wits, but I’m hoping we’ll be prepared very well because the first game we played them in the league, we lost the game,’ he added.

‘But coming to this one, we’re looking forward to it and we’re going to do well as a team.’
