SuperSport United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Royal Eagles, while Bidvest Wits claimed a 2-0 win over Cape Town All Stars in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday.

United got off to a bright start and took the lead in the 10th minute when Thabo Mnyamane latched onto a pass from Jeremy, before firing the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 from close range.

SuperSport nearly doubled their lead in the 19th minute, but Eagles goalkeeper Joslain Mayebi produced a superb save to keep out Mandla Masango’s effort.

However, the visiting side were then dealt a major blow in the 22nd minute when Mario Booysen was forced off the field with an injury, and had to be replaced by Grant Kekana.

The Eagles eventually levelled matters in the 29th minute when Mzwandile Dlamini found the back of the net with his left-footed strike.

SuperSport eventually took the lead for the second time in the match in the 74th minute, when Brockie headed the ball into the back of the net courtesy of a fine cross from Bhaserea.

Eagles pressed forward in search of an equalising strike in the closing stages of the match and had a goal ruled out, but SuperSport managed to hold on to their 2-1 lead until the final whistle to book their place in the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits claimed a 2-0 victory over Cape Town All Stars at Athlone Stadium following a brace by Mogakolodi Ngele.

Chippa United secured a 1-0 victory over Witbank Spurs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium with Lerato Manzini being the only scorer on the day.

Platinum Stars fought hard to clinch a 3-2 victory over Amazulu at the Moruleng Stadium in a five-goal thriller, which saw goals by Mbongeni Mzimela, Robert Ng’ambi and Henrico Botes cancelling out goals by Samuel Darpoh and Boysen Mbatha.
