Mamelodi Sundowns booked their spot in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals with a comprehensive win over GladAfrica Championship side Summerfield Dynamos on Saturday evening.
The Brazilians headed into the game as heavy favourites and made 10 changes from the midweek win over Swallows.
Despite the changes, Downs quickly took control of the game as they went 2-0 up. Gaston Sirino opened the scoring with eight minutes gone as he smashed his shot through the keeper’s hands from the edge of the six-yard box before, four minutes later, Lesedi Kapinga was on hand to stroke home Maema’s cutback.
Sundowns continued to push forward and came close through Aubrey Modiba and Teboho Mokoena, who struck the crossbar, as they had to settle on the two-goal lead at the break.
The South African champions turned up the heat in the second half as, first, Kermit Erasmus put his side 3-0 up with just seven minutes played.
Erasmus then sealed his brace 12 minutes later as he smashed home Sirino’s cross at the near post to put Downs out of sight.
Safranko made it 5-0 for the Brazilians with his first touch after guiding a free header past Masoga in the box from a cross by Sirino.
Sundowns were cruising into the last four of the competition as they set their sights on more domestic silverware.
