Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala believes his side stands a ‘good chance’ of winning the Nedbank Cup trophy this season.
The 32-year-old scored his 50th goal for the club during their 3-0 victory over Stellenbosch in their Nedbank Cup Last 32 tie at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
Tshabalala says he is blessed to have reached a milestone of 50 goals for the club during his 10-year spell with Amakhosi, while also insisting that their victory over the NDF side has given them the confidence to score more goals in their upcoming fixtures.
‘I’m celebrating a milestone, 50 goals in the team, 10 years with the club as well, so it’s another blessing and I’m truly thankful,’ Tshabalala said after the match.
‘I wrote it before the game and I was so determined that I’m going to get one. Thanks to my teammates and everyone for their support, past and present, and the journey continues.
‘I wouldn’t have done it without the help of the guys, we’ve worked very hard and we’ve been doing well in the past six, seven games, but we can still do better. But we’ll take the confidence from the goals that we scored to the next game.’
The veteran midfielder believes that scoring three goals against the Cape side will boost their confidence in the final third and he believes his side stand a good chance of lifting the trophy after their performance on Saturday.
‘We did well, we applied the basic principles of the game and were very professional, and I’m very happy we managed to score three goals, that was a confidence-booster, but overall we did well as a collective,’ he added.
‘We have a good chance [to win it now] but in a cup game anywhere in football the more you win, the more you play well, the harder it gets, but I think if we are in the right frame of mind and keep working very hard as a collective we’ll get there, but it’s one game at a time.’
Kaizer Chiefs will next take on Baroka when the Absa Premiership resumes on Saturday.
The match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium kicks off at 20:15.
