Mandla Masango, Tefu Mashamaite and Travis Graham form part of a list of players who could still be signed by PSL clubs regardless of the transfer window being shut due to being free agents.

The PSL transfer deadline was on 31 August at 11:59pm.

There weren’t any groundbreaking moves made on the final day, besides defending Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns who unveiled the signing of former Young PSL Footballer of the Year Phakamani Mahlambi for a reported fee of R13-million.

1) Travis Graham

The one-club man ended a 16-year stay with Ajax Cape Town after parting ways with the club a few months ago. Having been club captain at age 21, Graham boasts leadership skills beyond his years while also being a workhorse in the engine room.

2) Ayanda Gcaba

The no-nonsense defender has struggled to find a new home following his six-year stay with Orlando Pirates, which brought him a wealth of success. The centre back was last on the books of Platinum Stars (now Cape Umoya United) before they were relegated to the National First Division. The 32-year-old is said to have been on trial at Black Leopards and Highlands Park, with both newcomers opting against signing him.

3) Tshepo Gumede

Gumede is still on the lookout for a new team after being deemed surplus to requirements at Cape Town City in June. Only 27 years old, the ball-playing centre back still has loads to offer despite his somewhat dramatic decline.

4) Mandla Masango

The former Kaizer Chiefs wing and SuperSport United loanee has almost completely fallen off the football radar after a turbulent spell in Denmark with Randers.

The wing impressed in his debut season with Randers and apparently sought greener pastures in his sophomore year in Denmark as he looked to force a move. His career subsequently took a nosedive, with Masango enduring a miserable six-month loan spell with SuperSport United.

He was last linked with a move to Cape Town City, but reportedly snubbed the offer with his wage demands reportedly being too high.

5) Tefu Mashamaite

Mashamaite has never been able to replicate the heights that he reached with Chiefs when he formed that formidable partnership with Eric Mathoho in the heart of the defence to guide Chiefs to the league title under Stuart Baxter in the 2012-13 campaign.

The former Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and PSL Defender of the Season is now clubless after failing to make the grade at Swedish outfit BK Hacken as well as SuperSport United.
