Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mauricio Affonso says he is relishing the chance to begin his debut campaign with the reigning Absa Premiership champions.

The 27-year-old joined the Brazilians from Peru outfit Alianza Lima club after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Chloorkop.

Affonso has previously played his football in Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Peru as well as Venezuela in South America, and most recently played for Alianza Lima club in Peru.

The Uruguayan striker joined fellow countryman Gaston Sirino, who arrived in South Africa during the January transfer window last year.

However, Affonso has since linked up with his new teammates in Mpumalanga for their pre-season camp ahead of the 2019-20 season

The new Sundowns frontman says he is relishing the chance to make an impact during his debut season with the club and contribute to the team’s success.

‘It feels good to be here at Sundowns. It’s a big club, as lot of people know. They welcomed me well since I arrived in the country on Sunday. So far so good and I am training well with the team,’ Affonso the media.

‘I didn’t know much about Sundowns, but when the club made contact with my agent I did research about the club and found out the exploits in Africa and the [Club] World Cup. It’s an honour for me to come here and play for the team.

‘I expect to contribute to the team as a striker and attacker. I wanted something different in my career and felt Sundowns will be a good challenge for me to achieve that. I am already looking forward to the new season.’
