Cavin Johnson became the second coach casualty in the Absa Premiership on Monday after AmaZulu announced the coach’s departure on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the day it was confirmed that Clinton Larsen had lost his job at Chippa United. Now, after a poor start to the season, Johnson has suffered the same fate at Usuthu.

The KZN side picked up only two points in five games so far this season to sit rock bottom of the Absa Premiership log, and despite a fightback from a goal down in the KZN derby against Golden Arrows on the weekend to earn a 1-1 draw, Johnson has been shown the door.

The coach joined the club in August 2017 and after guiding them to a ninth-place finish in his first season, Johnson did a fantastic job in battling a point deduction in the 2018-19 season to eventually finish 11th and stay in the league.

AmaZulu general manager Lunga Sokhela said in a club statement: ‘We wish Mr Johnson the best of luck in his career.

‘The next focus for the club will be towards getting back on track since results have eluded us so far this season.’

AmaZulu next face Kaizer Chiefs at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 24 September.
