Kaizer Chiefs failed to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership as they suffered a shock 1-0 loss to basement dwellers AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium.

Ernst Middendorp’s men were looking to build on there massive win over Orlando Pirates and were looking to extend the gap to 10 points with Mamelodi Sundowns in action in the Caf Champions League earlier on in the day.

Anthony Agay was brought in to replace the injured Willard Katsande while Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya replaced Kgosto Moleko.

Chiefs though got off to a sluggish start besides coming into the game full of confidence against a team who were without a head coach after Jozef Vukušič was placed on special leave during the week.

Amakhosi though were the first to go close as Lebogang Manyama slipped through Leonardo Castro on goal, but the Colombian forward skewed his shot wide with only Siyabonga Mbatha to beat with 29 minutes gone.

Ushutu then silenced the FNB on the stroke of halftime as Talent Chawapiwa did well to pick out Bongninkosi Ntuli, who made no mistake with his finish to fire his side infront.

Middendorp brought on Khama Billiat and Bernard Parker at the start of the second half in search of an equaliser.

The Zimbabwean almost made an instant impact as he picked out Manyama in the box but the forward couldn’t hit the target from six-yards out.

Chiefs continued to push forward but were open to the counter attacks and if AmaZulu had been more clinical on a couple of occasions they could of killed off the game.

Billiat then had a glorious chance of his own with a header but he could not generate enough power to beat the keeper.

1-0 the final score as AmaZulu land what could be a decisive result in the title race.
