AmaZulu are considering legal action in an attempt to force their way back into the Premier Soccer League (PSL) top eight.

Usuthu finished the season on a high by clinching a place in the top 8, which guarantees a place in next season’s MTN 8, while they also received R1,5 million for their efforts. The Durban based side were set to bag R1 million for finishing in the top eight and R800 000 for participating in the MTN 8 knockout cup.

This all changed on Tuesday with the revelation that Ajax Cape Town were found guilty of fielding Tendai Ndoro against Polokwane City, SuperSport United and Platinum Stars. Ndoro and Ajax had broken a Fifa rule which states that a player can not play for more than two clubs in a single season, with the Zimbabwean striker having played for three.

The Urban Warriors were subsequently docked nine points and the resulting table reshuffle has caused controversy across the league.

The extra points awarded to SuperSport United meant that they went from narrowly escaping a playoff spot to suddenly leapfrogging AmaZulu into the top half while the Durban outfit slipped down to ninth place.

Usuthu’s team manager Qedi Dlamini has revealed that the club won’t take the decision lying down as they plan legal action to rectify the injustice.

‘We will be challenging the decision. We will get advice from our lawyers. We won all our points in the field of play, not off the field. I’m not speaking about those who got relegated.

‘How can this happen? I thought that the league was going to use other means to deal with this matter. Why are we compromised? We will try and fight this battle. We will leave all in our lawyers’ hands,’ concluded Dlamini.

Usuthu are now ninth on the log which means they will receive R750 000.
