Golden Arrows claimed a 3-2 victory over relegation-threatened Baroka at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
Arrows recently played to a 1-1 draw with Kaizer Chiefs, to earn themselves a point at the FNB Stadium.
Meanwhile, Baroka came off the back of a 2-2 draw against second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.
Baroka got off to a good start and thought they took the lead in the 11th minute when Maboke Matlakala’s close-range finish was disallowed for offside.
Jose Garcia nearly gave Baroka the lead when his first-time effort blazed against the side-netting as the scoreline remained goalless.
However, Abafana Bes’thende eventually took the lead in the 40th minute, as Siphelele Magubane netted a screamer into the top corner from long range.
Baroka came close to equalising on the stroke of half-time, but Matome Mathiane made a brave goal-line save to deny Arrows.
Bakgaga then pulled a goal back in the 70th minute as Victor Letsoalo found the back of the net after some poor defending from Arrows inside the side.
Clinton Larsen’s side then regained the lead when Lerato Lamola’s effort crossed the line, before Mahachi made it 3-1 with a superb chipped effort in the 78th minute.
Letsoalo then completed his brace and Baorka’s second in the 86th minute when he found the back of the net from inside the Arrows box.
Baroka were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the match at the death and Richard Matloga found the back of the net with his strike, but referee Victor Gomes disallowed his effort, as Arrows walked away with all three points.
