Cape Town City and Golden Arrows were forced to share the spoils after playing out to a 1-1 draw at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Citizens came into this game off the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against SuperSport United at the Mbombela Stadium last weekend.

Meanwhile, Arrows were forced to share the spoils with AmaZulu of playing out to a 1-1 draw at the
Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on 14 September.

The game got off to a good start with both sides looking to get on the front foot early on.

The home side thought they should’ve have been awarded a penalty in the fifth minute after Thamsanqa Mkhize was pulled down in the area but referee Victor Gomes waves play on.

Peter Leewenburgh was called into action four minutes later to make a quick Alsace after some confusion in the City penalty area.

City continued to dominate proceedings after 30 minute and came close to taking the lead from a Riyad Norodien free-kick but Sibanda was on hand to punch the ball away for a corner.

Taariq Fielies nearly handed his side the lead four minutes later when he produced a shit on goal but his effort was cleared off the line by the Arrows.

Sibanda came to his sides rescue in the 38th minute when he denied Fielies shot from a resulting corner.

The Citizens were forced to make a change in stoppage time after Abbubaker Mobara was forced off the field through injury and had to be replace by Mpho Makola.

It’s been a quiet first half from both sides as the game went into the half time break with the score line locked at 0-0.

Arrows showed their intent early in the second half and almost broke the deadlock but Leewenburgh made a good save to deny Lerato Lamola’s strike from a tight angle.

City eventually took the lead when Kermit Erasmus produced a well-timed header to make it 1-0.

Erasmus nearly doubled his sides lead in the 55th minute after some great interplay between him and Makola before firing his shit straight into the hand of the Arrows keeper.

Arrows began to dominate proceedings after the hour mark as they went in search of an equalising goal.

Gumede had a chance to to level matters eight minutes later but saw his shot sail over the crossbar.

Arrows made their first change of the game when they Venter replaced Sibiya, while City brought on Shaquille Abrahams for Norodien moments later.

The game started to get very physical after 76 minutes of play as Arrows continued to press forward in search of a leveler.

The visitors made their final change two minutes later when they introduced Mutizwa to replace Gumede, while Fagrie Lakay came on to make his City debut as he replaced Thabo Nodada in midfield.

Arrows were then awarded a penalty in the 86th minute when Sibeko was fouled by Seedat in the box. Knox Mutizwa stepped up and made no mistake from the spot-kick.

Neither side were able to find the winning goal as they were forced to share the spoils at Cape Town Stadium.
