Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kearyn Baccus hopes his side can maintain their winning run when taking on Black Leopards in the Absa Premiership this weekend.
The 27-year-old made his first appearance for Amakhosi in their 3-2 victory over Highlands Park in their opening Absa Premiership clash of the new season.
The Durban-born midfielder provided an assist for Lebogang Manyama to score the first goal when he whipped a cross to Manyama who slotted home with a fine header, making it 1-0 to Chiefs in the fifth minute of the pulsating match.
Baccus, who joined the club from Australia’s Melbourne City, says he is delighted to be a part of a team of Chiefs’ calibre.
‘It was a great feeling to make a start for the team,’ Baccus told his club’s official website. ‘I am glad to be part of this massive team. I am always ready at any time when required to play.
‘I was happy to be in the starting lineup,’ reflected Baccus. ‘It was good to see so many Kaizer Chiefs supporters in and around the stadium. The supporters turned up in big numbers which is a boost for the season.
‘The stadium was packed, and the spectators were loud and cheering us on. I was very happy to make my debut. I didn’t perform as I wanted, though. Before any match, I try and relax as much as I can. At camp, I shared a room with Leonardo Castro. We watched movies and had some interesting conversations. The coach told me on Sunday morning that Leo was, unfortunately, struggling with an injury.
‘The pitch was very difficult to play on. Also, we were caught off guard by their long balls. It was good to get a win and start the season with three points.’
Baccus will be hoping to make it two wins out of two when the Glamour Boys meet Black Leopards in the next league encounter at home on Saturday.
‘Another win this weekend will be key,’ he added.’
‘My families watched on and were happy to see me playing for Chiefs. I wish to play in Durban. I will work hard. With more training and matches, I will get to my best.’
Kaizer Chiefs against Black Leopards kicks off at 8:15pm.
